Family Team

Family Law Solicitor

We are looking to add a 1-3 year PQE solicitor to our busy, vibrant and supportive Family Law Team based in North Finchley.

The ideal candidate will have experience in both public and private law and will enjoy doing their own advocacy. Advocacy experience is not an essential requirement.

Experience in Legal Aid work is essential although the workload will be a mix of legal aid and privately paid work.

The role is hybrid and attendance at the office is required at least two days per week.

Salary

Salary commensurate with experience and within the constraints of Legal Aid remuneration (no agencies please).

Court of Protection Team

Court of Protection Associate Solicitor

We are looking for an experienced solicitor (preferably a minimum of 3 years PQE) to join our Court of Protection team.

We primarily represent P in welfare cases, most frequently instructed on P’s behalf by the Official Solicitor, and we also represent family members in the Court of Protection.

We are looking for someone who is conscientious, driven, organised, and works well in a team, and who has experience of supervising others. Experience of mental capacity matters, best interests and welfare issues in the Court of Protection is essential. Experience of conducting complex s.16 cases is desirable.

The ideal candidate will be ambitious and dedicated to working within this field of work. We are looking for someone with the potential to progress within the firm. This is an excellent opportunity for career progression for the right candidate to build their own profile, to work alongside colleagues listed in Chambers & Partners, and to develop an interesting and varied caseload, whilst supervising and assisting in the development of junior members of the team.

Salary

£45,000-£55,000 depending on experience and level of seniority.

Mental Health Team

Law Society Panel Member

We are currently looking to recruit a newly accredited Law Society Panel Member to join our Mental Health Team based in North Finchley.  The position is permanent with an immediate start (subject to any notice period, of course).

The role involves representing mental health clients at Tribunals and general casework – experience of Upper Tribunal appeals will differentiate but is not essential.

As a firm, we are fortunate enough to run many interesting cases at Tribunal level, on appeal to the Upper Tier and, on occasion, all the way to the Supreme Court. 

The department, as you might expect, is busy and there is quite a lot of ‘running around’ which goes hand in hand with keeping on top of the paperwork – knowledge of compliance in terms of the LAA and Lexcel would also be very beneficial as well as proficient IT skills.

Commitment and ability will be the key to any successful application and a solid understanding and adoption of the firm’s culture and values is imperative.

Salary

Subject to experience & level of qualification but is likely to fall within the £32K – £38K bracket.

Community Care Team

LAA Community Care Supervisor

We are seeking a full-time LAA Community Care Supervisor. This is a hybrid role, the office is located in North Finchley. The LAA Community Care Supervisor will be responsible for supervising a team of LAA Community Care caseworkers who provide support to clients regarding the assessment of care needs, care planning, and funding within the scope of the Legal Aid Agency contract.

Applicants wishing to conduct a combination of CoP / Community Care work are also welcome, however this role requires active case running and supervision of Community Care Matters.

Qualifications

  • Experience of working within Community Care Law
  • Previous experience in supervising a team of case workers
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and analytical skills
  • A strong focus on client care and ability to manage workload to strict deadlines
  • An awareness of the Legal Aid Agency Contract and compliance requirements
  • Commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion
  • Ability to work independently and also as a part of a team
  • Qualified Solicitor or a relevant qualification

Responsibilities

You will be running your own caseload as well as supervising a team with mix of CoP / Community Care but primarily the latter.

As a Legal Aid Agency Supervisor, you must at all times whilst employed by GN Law:

  • Comply with the Case Involvement Standard in that Category as set out in the relevant Standard Civil Contract
  • Comply with the Supervision Standards set out in the relevant Standard Civil Contract
  • Comply with the Legal Competence Standard for your Category of law as set out in the Category Specific Rules published in conjunction with the relevant Standard Civil Contract

Salary

Actions Against Police Team

Claims Against Police & Public Authorities Paralegal

We’re looking for a committed and enthusiastic paralegal to join our Claims Against Police & Public Authorities department. We specialise in complaints and compensation claims for assault, wrongful arrest/false imprisonment, discrimination, data breaches, malicious prosecution, misfeasance in public office and Human Rights Act claims.

This is an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to gain valuable experience in a highly respected department dedicated to upholding the rights of individuals against arms of the state.

Main Responsibilities

  • Supporting solicitors in the running of complaints and compensation claims against police and other public authorities.
  • Running your own caseload of complaints and compensation claims.
  • Fielding new enquiries from prospective clients.
  • Submitting applications for public funding to the Legal Aid Agency.
  • Submitting files for billing to the accounts department.
  • Assisting with wider firm/department goals e.g. website articles, attendance at open days.

Key Skills and Experience

  • Experience of similar work experience is advantageous but not essential.
  • High quality written work e.g. instructions to professionals, advice letters to clients.
  • Excellent organisation.
  • Attention to detail e.g. identifying important information in evidence.
  • Ability to absorb factual information and analyse matters legally.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to adopt an empathetic approach to client’s needs.

Salary

£22,500 – £24,000 pa subject to experience & level of qualification.
