On the 1st October 2013, the new rates for national minimum wage came into force. For those 21+ this is now set at £6.31 and for those in the 18-20 bracket just tops the £5 mark for the first time at £5.03.
There are also increases for the age 16-17 bracket to £3.72and apprentices to £2.68. On the same day the much publicised “name and shame” policy came into force. Employers who fail to pay the national minimum wage can now be named and shamed publically. This will make interesting reading and in particular whether any household names make their way on to the list of shame.
