GN Law Media: Simona Obadia revisits the law on domestic violence.

Legal aid funding in family law cases was, up until recently, limited to those that could prove domestic violence within two years.

On 28th January 2016, the Court of Appeal ruled that the two year time limit was unlawful for two reasons. Firstly, victims of financial abuse were unable to access legal aid in family law, as this was extremely hard to prove. Secondly, the time limit meant that many victims were cut off from the available remedies that could keep them and their children safe.

This new ruling means that many more victims of domestic violence can reach out for legal advice and representation at Courts. Finally!
