Navin’s journey – looking back on 10 Years at GN Law
When Navin Bundhoo first joined GN Law, it was meant to be just a two-week work experience placement. But what began as a short introduction to the legal world quickly turned into the start of a decade-long career. Impressed by his dedication and enthusiasm, GN Law invited Navin to stay on through the summer, where he gained valuable early experience.
Finding his niche in Mental Health and Court of Protection
Before long, Navin was offered a permanent position as a Mental Health Paralegal in the Tring office, his first real step into a specialist legal field. He thrived in the role, developing a strong working relationship with his supervisor and learning to manage the sensitive and complex cases that define mental health law.
When the firm later needed a paralegal in the Court of Protection team, Navin stepped forward without hesitation. Despite having no prior experience in that area, he quickly adapted, learning from colleagues and proving his ability to take on new challenges with confidence and care.
Balancing studies and practice
Encouraged by the firm’s directors to continue his professional development, Navin began his LPC while working full-time a demanding balance that GN Law supported by allowing him to attend evening seminars.
“The firm was really supportive during that time,” he recalls. “It wasn’t easy, but it was absolutely worth it. Studying and working went hand in hand I could apply what I was learning every day, which made a huge difference.”
He explains that staying hands-on with practical work was key to his success: “Any time away from real casework makes it harder to settle back in. Working while studying helped me build confidence, with things like drafting documents, which came naturally because I was doing them constantly. That experience really set me up for success and helped me become a confident newly qualified solicitor.”
Fast-track training contract
Navin’s training contract included seats in Mental Health, Housing, and Wills Trust and Probate. His time in Housing focused on tenant work and evictions demanding yet rewarding cases that deepened his commitment to helping vulnerable clients access justice.
He completed his training contract in just 18 months; thanks to his extensive paralegal experience he was able to lead the Housing team throughout the pandemic. Later, when the opportunity arose, he again stepped up this time overseeing the much larger Court of Protection team, three to four times the size.
Progressing to leadership as deputy head of his department
These leadership opportunities helped Navin grow into the guiding role he holds today as Deputy Head of the Court of Protection department. His rapid progression from work experience student to senior team member demonstrates both his personal commitment and the firm’s investment in developing talent from within.
The GN Law difference through culture and growth
Reflecting on his journey, he highlights how vital GN Law’s culture has been to his development:
“The training at GN Law is fantastic, especially for recent graduates, and I think that really has to be highlighted. There’s a different culture here compared to other firms; it’s supportive, progressive, and genuinely focused on helping people grow. That’s a big part of why I’ve been at GN Law for so long. My efforts have always been recognised and respected, both by my colleagues and the directors, and that kind of environment really motivates you to keep developing.”
A decade of growth and looking forward
Next year he marks ten years with the firm. Navin’s story reflects GN Law’s values at their best commitment, collaboration, and a dedication to helping both clients and colleagues thrive.
